We developed an integrated set of graphics and infographics for Southmead Hospital ICU. From large-format wall art to leaflets, our designs orientate, inform and engage both staff and visitors – brightening up corridors and improving wayfinding.
Clear signage and simple explanations with ‘non clinical’ text and images all aim to reduce the visitor experience and the anxiety for family, carers and patients at what can be a difficult and stressful time.
The design also brightens up the space for medical staff, and has proved to be a talking point.
The feedback we have had from staff at Southmead, and other hospitals all over the country after a tweet and images of our work by the ICU Management team, has been fantastic.
We are hopeful we can develop our ideas to improve other wards and departments elsewhere.
"The reviews [of the graphics] from staff and relatives were outstanding with compliments coming as far afield as Australia … both informative and colourful … making not only a better working environment but an improvement too in hand hygiene with potential benefits for patients – it might even save lives as hospital acquired infection is a real problem…
